The liberal media and their Democrat pals in Congress can't restrain their joy over the latest casualty figures in the Iraq/Afghan War. Finally, over 4,000 US troops have been killed in the War on Terror and another 28,000 wounded. The Pelosi/Reid "cut and run" crowd along with Barack Hussein Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton can't wait to wave the "White" surrender flag.
In San Antonio the usual America is bad and the military is even worse crowd continues to serve up their liberal garbage on how bad the war is going.
Leonard Pitts, whose liberal, anti-war articles appear in the Express-News on a regular basis, doesn't believe anything is worth fighting for. "The overriding truth of this war is it should never have been fought," says Pitts. Pitts says he is more concerned about the price of gas than the price of war. Bush, he says is a "fear-mongering" leader who tries to stampede us into unwise action.
"At some point, you have to stand up and be brave. Stand up like American women and men. This, we have largely failed to do," said Pitts. What kind of crap is that. The folks who have stood up and been brave are not the likes of Pitts and his peace at any price cronies. The ones who have stood up are the brave American troops who are slugging it out with the enemy 24-7 in Iraq and Afghanistan and get this Pitts, they're winning.
Only when it's a bad day in the war do we hear it mentioned in the news media. Winning battles seems to have little effect on todays media folks. US troops are out of sight and out of mind unless they are facing kangaroo style military court-martials for being too tough on terrorists. Then they have to report on those nasty US troops.
Not much is said about the real atrocities committed by the enemy on a daily basis in Iraq and Afghanistan. Cutting off the heads of helpless victims with a dull knife is one of their specialties. The US has been condemned by the liberals for "waterboarding" the bad guys. Torture they cry while remaining silent on the terrorists torturing and beheading helpless victims and killing innocent men, women and children with suicide bombers and IEDs.
Of course in the eyes of the liberals US troops are the bad guys and the terrorists are "Freedom Fighters." Don't be surprised if Hanoi Jane shows up in Baghdad holding the knife for the terrorists in support of the next beheading.
If we had the same crowd running Congress and the media during WWII we would all be speaking German, Italian and Japanese today. Fortunately for America the people, including the White House, Congress and the media were united against the enemy. Unfortunately, that's not the case today. The Democrats and a few Republicans (RINOs) want to "cut and run."
When you call the defeatists unpatriotic they really get upset. If you don't support the war you aren't supporting the troops folks. The mission of US troops is to win not lose wars. We cut and run in Korea and again in Vietnam and we saw where that got us. A nut case communist dictator in North Korea threatening to nuke everyone and a bunch of armed, communist thugs in power in Vietnam.
Let's face it - America just isn't the same country that it was when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Oh sure, members of Congress stood on the steps of the Capitol and sang God Bless America as show of unity after the 911 attack, but that didn't last long. When it came to taking the fight to the enemy the Democrats ran like frightened sheep. The Pelosi/Reid gang is still wringing their hands in despair and lamenting that it's just too tough we can't win in Iraq we must surrender. Sadly, a few Republicans are saying the same thing.
In WWII on June 6, 1944, 156,000 allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy in "Operation Overlord." In the face of determined Nazi resistance they held the beaches. In less than an hour over 2,500 allied troops were killed and several times that number wounded. But they didn't give up, even when the issue was in doubt and the invasion almost called off. Gen. Eisenhower had written a note accepting full responsibility if the invasion failed.
Throughout WWII US troops faced horrendous battles with enemy troops. The Japanese in the Pacific and the Germans in Europe. Huge blunders were made and battles lost. Generals and admirals were relieved but we didn't give up. The fight went on even when the outcome was in serious doubt. There were no calls from members of Congress to surrender to cut and run.
The battle of Iwo Jima, fought in February and March of 1945, resulted in over 6,800 American battle deaths. Joe Rosenthal took the famous photo of the US Flag being raised over Mount Suribachi. Over 21,000 Japanese troops, who refused to surrender and fought to the last man, were killed. Very few prisoners were taken.
When Secretary of the Navy James Rosenthal, who accompanied Marine Gen. Holland "Howlin' Mad" Smith to Iwo Jima, saw the flag raised on Suribachi he remarked to Smith," Holland, the rasing of that flag on Suribachi means a Marine Corps for the next five hundred years." Let's hope he was right.
The nation lost over 300,000 American GIs killed in WWII another 36,000 in Korea and 55,000 in Vietnam. Only in Korea and Vietnam we quit before the job was done. The Democrats want us to quit in Iraq.
Gen. David Petraeus appeared before Congress on April 8, 2008, and told a Senate committee chaired by Sen. Carl levin, D-Mich., that he wants a 45-day 'period of consolidation and evaluation' once the extra combat forces ordered to Iraq have completed their pullout in July. He did not commit to a timetable to troop withdrawals. In other words Petraeus told Congress I'm commanding the Iraq War and I'll decide when troops will be withdrawn and sent home not Congress.
Good for him - I would have used stronger language but I'm not Petraeus. Here's what he should have said, "We're winning in Iraq senator, no thanks to you and the other Democrats. My troops have never lost a battle and they're killing those damn terrorists by the truck load. You give us the support we need and we'll end this damn war with a big victory for America. We're not leaving until the job is done. Now if you'll excuse me I have to get back to the war."
Levin responded with a typical we 'must surrender' reply by saying,"What you've given to your chain of command is a plan which has no end to it." No thanks, no you're doing a great job in Iraq, nothing, nada, just negative, defeatist comments. These bum have got to be thrown out of office.
America is in a war that if lost could spell real trouble for our country. Yet, in spite of this congressional Democrats are still clamoring for a pull out of our troops. They're invested in defeat not victory. The Democrat presidential contenders Barack Hussein Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton are also campaiging on defeat in Iraq. It's hard to believe that these two senators and their party have so little faith in the US military to win the war.
Sen. John McCain, Republican nominee for president and ranking Republican on the committee said, "Today it's possible to talk with real hope and optimism about the future of Iraq and the outcome of our efforts there."
Not a bad reply but it could have been a lot better along the lines of, "Thanks to Gen. Petraeus and his troops we're winning in Iraq. Frankly Mr. Chairman I'm fed up with all this surrender talk I've heard from the Democrats. We should be asking what does the general and his troops need from us to assure victory in Iraq not when will they retreat." The troops would have been inspired and it would have gotten him a whole bunch of votes in Nov. 08.
A big problem in politics and in fighting wars is that those in charge are afraid to say what they really think. Afraid of what the liberal media will do to them. What this country needs is another fiery president like Teddy Roosevelt and tough, give em' hell, generals like MacArthur and Patton, salty old admirals like Bull Halsey, and a German field marshall like Erwin Rommel. In a nation with a population of over 300 million, not counting 20 to 30 million illegal immigrants, there has to be such men. Only where in the hell are they?
Gen. Petreaus must have felt that he had appeared before an al Qaida Terrorists tribunal.
